WHAT IS MARIJUANA?
Often referred to as Dagga, pot, weed, and dope. Marijuana is a mixture of the dried leaves, seeds and flowers of the Cannabis Sativa plant.
Marijuana is often smoked in joints (rolled) but can also be smoked with water pipes known as bongs. Marijuana can also be cooked into food and eaten.
The major active chemical is called Delta-9-teterahydrocannabinol or THC, which is the active chemical which causes the mind-altering effects.

MARIJUANA EFFECTS ON THE BRAIN
Many years of research have yielded results in the way cannabis affects the brain. A common argument is that Marijuana isn’t a drug and shouldn’t be illegal but science has shown the dramatic changes in the brain can often be irreversible and is one of the leading causes of psychosis, schizophrenia and other mental health issues.
Another common argument is that Marijuana is not addictive but long term use of Marijuana has shown that there are signs and symptoms of addiction. These signs are only shown when the user stops using the drug. Marijuana Rehabilitation is more often than not necessary to overcome this drug.
MARIJUANA SYMPTOMS:
- Irritability
- Difficulty sleeping
- Anxiety
- Increased aggression
- Difficulty eating

MARIJUANA ADDICTION RECOVERY
Addiction to Marijuana is no laughing matter. Some may find they need Marijuana to get through their day or will need it to ‘loosen up’ at social gatherings. Often an underlying anxiety, fear or other negative emotion will encourage the use of Marijuana, which will bring about sensations of apathy, laziness, or relief.
Heavy marijuana abuse may show low achievement in important life measures including mental and physical health, and career. Marijuana affects memory, judgment, and perception. Learning and attention skills are impaired among people who use it heavily.
The increase in users younger than 18 years old is on the increase and because it’s illegal, there is no age restriction. There is evidence that shows, children as young as 11 years old are smoking Marijuana, causing stunted development and functional problems.
